How will you respond if you have a life-threatening disease, severe body pains, lifelong confinement to the wheelchair, uncertainty of life at every moment, and never-ending complications to manage day-to-day activities?
At the age of 10, when your friends are immersed in playful and fun games, you are told that these simple pleasures won’t be possible for you.
A fracture at the age of 13 not only raptured her bones but also got her confined to a wheelchair. Although the incident was life-altering and very disturbing, it did not deter her strong will and focus in life. A few years later, she had to be rushed to the hospital during examinations due to a severe lung infection. The doctors had given up and she was almost at the door of death, but she faced it and fought hard—initially with confusion, with distraught, and now with vigor.
Her journey of challenges and crises has no end and so does her courage to bounce back.
Mohini Maadan, now 22, has already seen life and realized its purpose beyond the confinement of life and death. She has muscular dystrophy—a progressive rare disease. She barely has the energy to talk, forget to walk or even raise her hands. Can we imagine living with these physical inabilities since birth? When you know that you have a short life, won’t you succumb to bitterness and atrocities?
Mohini Madaan is different; she has set an example of how to accept and smartly navigate the imminent. She has much more life in her life.
Knowing that she doesn’t have much time to live, was she devastated? Yes. Was she heartbroken, lonely, and felt helpless at times? Yes. But she gracefully accepted and decided to do the best with what she had. Time. She is the perfect example of a time manager. She is an ardent follower of ISKCON and Bhagavad-gita’s teachings and loves her spiritual master.
She has a weak body but a strong mind. Now she is busy accomplishing the impossible, connecting and convincing people around the globe to take the path of spirituality.
With a grateful heart, against the doctor’s advice, she took a 16-hour flight to Dallas, USA to be in touch with her teacher’s community. With time, she is losing her bodily strength but gaining soul strength. She is distributing books and organizing festivals in her spiritual teacher’s memory, His Holiness Tamal Krishna Goswami.
Her energy, enthusiasm, and unshakable focus is her message. In her book titled “Twice as Bright: A Young Girl’s Journal of Devotion”, she shares her experiences and realizations. An ocean of wisdom for all seeking souls.
She has transcended her constant bodily pain and discomfort and exhaustion don’t disturb her anymore. She lives in the present and she is ready to experience what life throws at her. What a story—the realm of unlimited possibilities to experience the fullness of “now”!
